Sandalwood has its historical origins in India, where it has been cultivated for its fragrance for thousands of years. The wood, now largely protected in India, is today primarily grown in Australia. The oil extracted from it has a milky, rich, and woody scent that has been a timeless component in everything from Ayurvedic medicine and incense to French haute parfumerie.
In this lecture, you’ll learn all about the history of sandalwood, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we’ll smell both the raw material and isolated fragrance molecules, alongside contemporary perfumes from Nordiska Kompaniet.
