The smoky-scented roots of the grass Chrysopogon zizanoides, also known as vetiver, have their historical origins in the Caribbean and Indonesia. In the perfume industry, vetiver has long been a central ingredient in many perfumes with a leathery, smoky and woody character, from historical classics to contemporary niche perfumes.
In this lecture, you’ll learn all about the history of vetiver, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we’ll smell both the raw material and isolated fragrance molecules, alongside contemporary perfumes from Nordiska Kompaniet.
