HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design is a school for film, photography, literary composition and fine art at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. In 2025, I was invited as guest lecturer to “Art, Knowledge, Context” – a symposium on artistic research gathering academics and PhD students in artistic research from all over Sweden.

The lecture presented the challenges and possibilities of scent as an artistic medium, and perfumery as a potential field of study within art history. Participants were guided through how semiotic theory can be applied to perfumery, in order to better understand how perfumery can be approached from an artistic research perspective.
