Doftspår i P1

Doftspår i P1 is a special program commissioned by Sveriges Radio on the Swedish history of scent and perfume. The show was hosted by myself and Amanda Rydman, produced by Tommie Jönsson, and aired on Easter Friday 2026 in P1.

“Perfume historian Victor Langer and host Amanda Rydman take us on a fragrant journey through Swedish history. We visit the court of Karl XIV Johan to understand the extent of the regent's large consumption of eau de cologne. We sniff at Lortsverige, the charter-era duty-free shops, we investigate why crazy-expensive scented candles became an identity marker in the 21st century and we are also offered an insight into why today's teenage boys have become major consumers of perfume.

The program invites poet Aya Kanbar, who often and happily writes about scent and perfume. Perfume entrepreneur Sandra Kinnmark talks about how AI is used in fragrance design and reporter Jonatan Loxdal meets a perfume nerd who is hunting for niche olfactory sensations.”
