Lecture: With a Scent of Patchouli

  • Medelhavsmuseet 2 Fredsgatan Stockholm, Stockholms län, 111 52 Sweden (map)

Please note that this lecture is given in Swedish

Patchouli is one of the most mythical raw materials in the perfume industry, with a long history stretching from the silk trade of the 19th century to the psychedelic hippie movement. Today, despite its sometimes polarizing scent, it remains an indispensable ingredient in a wide range of both contemporary and historical perfumes.

In this lecture, you’ll learn all about the history of patchouli, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we’ll smell both the raw material and isolated fragrance molecules, alongside contemporary perfumes from Nordiska Kompaniet.
